The Champions League is back! The second night of the quarter-finals has concluded, lets see the state of the first legs of the first two matches as Bayern Munich faced PSG and FC Porto hosted Chelsea.
Bayern Munich 2-3 PSG (First leg)
It was a night to forget for the European Champions as they were torn apart by a ravaging PSG side who were clinical as ever in front of goal. It was another Champions League night for Kylian Mbappe to steal the show, with two goals to his name he was electric agaisnt a leaky Bayern back-line who were forced into early changes in the first half to add to their injury woes. The first goal came early in the match with PSG’s first attack in the third minute, Neymar laid in Mbappe who fired straight at Neuer who mis-controlled the attempt through his legs into the net to give the French Champions a 1-0 lead in Germany. The second came in the 28th minute when a free-kick wasn’t dealt with well and allowed Neymar to whip a delicious ball behind the back-line to Marquinhos who slotted away for 0-2. Bayern Munich did start to get back into the game then with a whipped ball in by Joshua Kimmich finding the head of Eric-Maxim Choupo Moting who guided the ball home for 1-2 and gave the Germans a lifeline. After so much sustained pressure and chances on goal, the equaliser did eventually come when Kimmich whipped in a free-kick from the right which was headed in by an on rushing Thomas Muller to make it 2-2. It looked like Bayern would go on and complete the turnaround if not for PSG and Kylian Mbappe. Another counter-attack exposed the Bayern back-line allowing Mbappe to finish home through the legs of Boateng to give PSG a 2-3 lead to take to their home tie. The European Champions have it all to do now in the return fixture.
Man of the Match – Kylian Mbappe (8/10)
FC Porto 0-2 Chelsea (First Leg)
It was another impressive win for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel who were no where near their best but got a crucial 2-0 win in their away tie with Porto. The home side were by far the better of the two sides in the first half, failing to be clinical in front of goal and being wasteful at every opportunity. After their humiliating 2-5 defeat to West Brom at the weekend the Blues bounced back, the deadlock was broken in the 32nd minute when Mason Mount finished superbly past Marchesin in the Porto net. The second came deep into the second half when Ben Chilwell latched onto a pass and rounded the keeper to give Chelsea a second away goal and finish off the game at 2-0. The Portuguese side will now have to score at least two goals in their away leg if they hope to advance past a Chelsea side that look difficult to stop at the moment.
Man of the Match – (Mason Mount 7/10)
